America is a bleak wasteland in the future. Ma-Ma, a prostitute-turned-drug peddler who wants to take over the city with a terrible new substance, is the newest plague. Judges, an elite cadre of metropolitan cops who combine the roles of judge, jury, and executioner to execute a ruthless style of fast justice, are the only ones who (first article) can stop her. In this spectacular adaptation of the extremely famous comic book, even the top-ranking Judge, Dredd, realizes that bringing down Ma-Ma isn't as simple as it seems.
Judge Dredd may have been one of the most spectacular failures in recent film history, but its source material and fan base were enough to inspire a follow-up movie, Dredd. This time around, they aimed to be more faithful to the original source material, but there was a problem with this plan. Because the studios were unwilling to spend nearly as much money on a second film based on Judge Dredd comics, the film's fantastical technology, hovercrafts, and robots were all thrown out of the window.
